Exception traffic is traffic destined to the SRX itself (for example: routing protocols, pings to the SRX, DHCP, Telnet/SSH to the SRX, etc.).
When the SRX processes exception traffic:
It is handled in the host-inbound direction
It is evaluated based on the ingress interface and its security zone
This means the SRX checks its host-inbound-traffic settings for the zone that the traffic entered, not the egress zone.
