Some people want to get a credit gift card, some would prefer a book, some would like a one month gym membership etc. So if PM is asking team "how to use it" ....they are empowering team to make decision.

A is the better option because of team empowerment, flexibility, specific rewards for individuals, and it will improve spirits. B is okay, but some people might not want to do a team lunch after working overtime with each other for so long.
